The DuoGlide® Short-Term Dual Lumen Dialysis Catheter is an easy to place, kink resistant, dual-lumen catheter designed for flow rates of 400 mL/min with pressures of less than 250 mmHg1. At a flow rate of 300 mL/min the symmetrical tip design of the 24cm DuoGlide® Short Term Dual Lumen Catheter demonstrated less than 1% recirculation on average when lines are run in forward and reverse.2 Note that recirculation in femoral placed catheters is likely significantly greater than in internal jugular placed catheters.

CATHETER INDICATIONS AND MATERIALS

What are the indications for use for the DuoGlide® Catheter?

The DuoGlide® Catheters are indicated for use in attaining short-term (less than 30 days) vascular access for hemodialysis, hemoperfusion, and apheresis therapy via the jugular, subclavian or femoral vein.

What are the contraindications?

The catheter is intended for short-term vascular access only and is not to be used for any purpose other than indicated.

What materials comprise the DuoGlide® Catheter?

The DuoGlide® Catheter connectors for the dialysis lumens (blue and red) are made from Delrin™ polyacetal, the extension legs from Tecothane™ polyurethane, and the catheter shaft is made from thermosensitive Bodysoft® polyurethane which softens at body temperature.

The product and packaging do not contain natural rubber latex.

CATHETER PERFORMANCE

What flow rate does DuoGlide® Catheter achieve?

The DuoGlide® Catheter flows at 400 mL/min for all lengths with low arterial/venous pressures (less than 250 mmHg). As suggested by in vitro data using a blood simulate approximating the viscosity of whole blood.

What is the recirculation rate of the DuoGlide® Catheter?

The rate of recirculation of the dialysis lumens is less than 1% on average in both the forward and reverse directions when tested in vitro1 at a flow rate of 300 mL/min with the symmetrical tip design of the 24 cm DuoGlide® Short Term Dialysis Catheter. Note that recirculation in femoral catheters is likely significantly greater than in internal jugular placed catheters.2

What is the French size of the DuoGlide® Catheter?

The DuoGlide® Catheter outer diameter is 13 French. The intra lumens are large 12 gauge lumens that allow for flows of 400 mL/min.

Why is the DuoGlide® Catheter oval?

The oval shape provides superior kink resistance compared to a round shaft catheter.

In what configurations does the DuoGlide® Catheter come?

The DuoGlide® Catheter is available in both straight and curved extension leg configurations.

In what insertion lengths does the DuoGlide® Catheter come?

Why is the DuoGlide® Catheter suture wing transparent and rotatable?

Transparent, rotatable wing allows for easy visualization and cleaning of exit site.

What is included in the kit/tray to dilate prior to placing the DuoGlide® Catheter?

Each kit/tray includes an 11-13 Fr. Dualator® Vessel Dilator and a 12-14 Fr. Dualator® Vessel Dilator. Placers should dilate to the largest portion of each Dualator® Vessel Dilator to allow the catheter to more easily enter the tissue and vessel.

PLACEMENT, MAINTENANCE AND CARE

In what veins is the DuoGlide® Catheter intended to be placed?

The DuoGlide® Catheter is intended to be inserted in the jugular, femoral, or subclavian vein as required.

WARNING: The catheter must not be left in the femoral vein longer than three days.

What is recommended to maintain patency of the DuoGlide® Catheter between hemodialysis, hemoperfusion, or apheresis treatments?

It is recommended that each dialysis lumen be locked with a heparin concentration per institutional protocol. The total volume of each solution must be equal to the internal volume of each lumen. The priming volume is indicated on each clamp. The heparin lock is intended to maintain patency, but should not be used in patients with thrombocytopenia.

Where should the tip of the DuoGlide® Catheter be placed?

Placement of the tip is up to the placing physician. NKF K/DOQI guidelines recommend that for acute dialysis catheters placed in the jugular or subclavian vein, the tip be placed in the caval atrial junction or the superior vena cava.

What cleaning agents are recommended for use on the DuoGlide® Catheter?

The DuoGlide® Dialysis Catheter is compatible with the following agents: Povidone iodine, 0.55% sodium hypochlorite solution, chlorhexidine gluconate 4%, chlorhexidine gluconate 2% solution, dilute aqueous sodium hypochlorite, hydrogen peroxide, bacitracin zinc ointments in petrolatum bases.

WARNING: Acetone and PEG-containing ointments can cause failure of this device and should not be used with polyurethane catheters. Chlorhexidine patches or bacitracin zinc ointments are the preferred alternatives.

Is the DuoGlide® Catheter compatible with the StatLock® Catheter Stabilization Device?

Yes. The StatLock® Catheter Stabilization Device is compatible and can be ordered separately from the Bard Medical Division at 800-526-4455. The part number is DI0122.

Can the DuoGlide® Catheter be placed femorally?

Yes, the 24 cm and 30 cm lengths are recommended for femoral placements.

WARNING:The catheter must not be left in the femoral vein longer than three days.

Can the DuoGlide® Catheter be exchanged over a guidewire?

Yes, the DuoGlide® Catheter may be exchanged over a guidewire. The wire included in the kit is a 0.035 inch wire which fits through the venous lumen of the catheter.
